Today, LinkedIn’s annual talent conference, Talent Connect 2023, kicked off at the Javits Center here in New York. Ryan Roslansky, who moved into the CEO role at LinkedIn just before the pandemic, focused his keynote on one topic: redefining work in the age of AI.
Here are a few takeaways from his remarks:
In the short term, AI will change how we work: “It will take on more of the work we like least in our days – the first draft of an outreach email or the first check for errors in a budget document.”
But over the coming years, AI will “change the very definition of work itself:” The share of jobs posting mentioning ChatGPT has increased 21x since November 2022.
Yes, but: LinkedIn data also shows an increase in demand for soft skills, like communication and flexibility: 72% of US executives say that soft skills are more valuable than AI skills.
In the age of AI, “people-to-people collaboration is still essential to the success of companies,” says Roslansky.
Nonetheless, AI will fundamentally change how we define jobs: The jobs of the future won’t be categorized by job titles, says Roslansky, but by a “collection of skills and tasks” – and it’s up to company leaders to decide how those skills and tasks change with the adoption of AI.
