Tech:NYC launches job search site with thousands of local positions (Crain’s New York Business)

  • In working on the new jobs board with Getro, the added benefit was all the hiring data we could generate from what was otherwise anecdotal information. Most of the open positions are in sales, business development, and engineering, functions Getro CEO Evan Walden said are “contributing to the core business and to growing the business,” a priority that makes a lot of sense given the economic climate right now.

  • If you missed our fireside chat with Wemimo for our most recent edition of the Cornell Tech @ Bloomberg series, this should catch you up. The self-described “justice capitalist” led the company to a $130 million Series B round at the beginning of 2022, making it one of the very few Black-led unicorns in the US.

City AI firms bucked the VC downturn, raised a whopping $483M in 2022 (Crain’s New York Business

  • Consider the seismic shift of that number compared to 2018, when just $41 million was raised by generative AI companies in New York. AI feels like a buzzy sector right now, of course, but its skyrocketing share of venture capital also shows just how quickly it’s finding a path to commercialization.

  • Andy Byford, the much-beloved British former head of NYC Transit is back stateside, this time to head up Amtrak’s high-speed rail program in a new role created specifically for him. If he can do for Amtrak what he did for subway on-time performance improvements, we may finally turn a corner on what has for too long remained a missing piece of our transportation infrastructure.
