A quick round of summer Friday updates:
The US as a whole is roughly on track to meet Pres. Biden’s goal of administering at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to 70 percent of the adult population by July 4, but some states are moving a lot slower than others. These charts provide a helpful look at how each state is doing in reaching that goal.
At the current rates, New York is expected to reach the goal in nine days.
Mobile vaccination clinics are coming to some of the city’s schools in an effort to increase vaccination rates among children ages 12 to 17 before they head out for summer break at the end of June. Starting today, four mobile vaccination vehicles will be stationed at four schools in the Bronx, and more will be stationed at three additional schools on Sunday and Monday. (New York Times) The Bronx has the lowest rate of fully vaccinated residents.
The last of the COVID-era restrictions on the city’s restaurants, bars, and catering businesses has come to an end. Restaurants and bars can now serve past midnight. The decision to move ahead with lifting the curfew comes as COVID-19 positivity rates in the city and state remain well below one percent. (ABC New York)
In the middle of a record-setting bike boom across the city, Mayor de Blasio remains committed to adding 30 miles of protected bike lanes this year. Demand is certainly there: a record 2.7 million+ Citi Bike rides were taken in May alone. (amNY) And PS: if you get your COVID-19 vaccine, you can also get a free two-week Citi Bike membership.
