A quick round of updates:
The White House acknowledged that it will fall short of its goal to have 70 percent of all American adults with at least one dose of the vaccine by July 4. (CNN) 71.5 percent of New York adults have at least one dose, and the state is winding down some of its mass vaccination sites, instead shifting to a highly targeted push, akin to get-out-the-vote efforts, for those reluctant to get the shot. (New York Times)
The city’s public swimming pools reopen Saturday for the first time since before the pandemic began. Pools will be open 11am to 7pm daily this summer, and closed for cleaning 3pm-4pm. The reopening couldn’t come at a better time, with high heat and humidity expected to return this weekend. The city’s indoor pools remain closed. (CBS New York)
And it’s Pride Weekend! In a typical year, thousands would gather amid the flags and floats to celebrate at the Pride March, but this year’s march will happen virtually, with a broadcast special beginning at noon on Sunday. (ABC New York)
Even with the more limited march, several other rallies will go on in-person: the annual NYC Dyke March begins at 5pm Saturday, and the Queer Liberation March & Rally kicks off at 2:30pm on Sunday.
Also on Sunday, PrideFest, the annual street fair, will open in Greenwich Village at 11am and run until 6pm. Attendance is free.
