Friday, June 11, 2021Happy Friday! We’re landing in your inbox early for another summer Friday edition of the digest. Was this digest forwarded to you? Subscribe here.

A quick round of updates:
We’re inching closer to the 70 percent vaccination rate (of adults with at least one dose) that will lift the state’s remaining pandemic-era restrictions. (New York Times) In response, there's been a sharp rise in restaurants and other businesses implementing their own proof-of-vaccination policies, prompting outrage and threats of lawsuits from some people. (Who we can pretty confidently assume are not vaccinated.) (Eater NY)
Big-venue live music is back! Following Mayor de Blasio’s announcement of a mega-concert in Central Park, three other live music performances will be mounted this month: Bruce Springsteen returning to Broadway, Foo Fighters reopening Madison Square Garden, and the Strokes performing at Irving Plaza. (NPR)
New pop-up vaccination sites are opening this weekend, including the observatory on top of the Empire State Building. More details.
The Food and Drug Administration has decided around 60 million Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines produced at a troubled Baltimore factory have to be thrown out due to possible contamination. (New York Times)
And lastly, the new best worst attraction you love to hate and hate to love, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Resort Times Square, gets a $370 million renovation and a July opening date. (Bloomberg) Frozen drinks at the 5 O’Clock Somewhere bar, anyone?

NYC Wakes Up: May 2021 was a turning point, and 15 photographers under the age of 25 chronicled it. (New York Times)

And one last thing to take into your weekend: It was quite the week in the race for mayor — and just in time for the first day of early voting tomorrow. If you’re still living under your WFH rock, let’s just say questions have emerged about mayoral candidate Eric Adams’ residence — and whether he actually lives in NYC at all. He gave a home tour to end the speculation, but people aren’t buying it.
Have a good weekend!
