Tech Put New York City’s Job Market On Its Shoulders (Commercial Observer)

  • ICYMI: Tech:NYC released the inaugural edition of Innovation Indicators, a new multi-year initiative to measure the economic impact of NYC’s tech sector. The updated data, published for the first time in a report we released this week with the Center for an Urban Future, found NYC tech sector jobs increased by 8.7% while the city’s overall employment numbers decreased by 5.3% during the pandemic.

The 59 Most Important VCs in New York, According to VCs (Insider)

  • The news swirling about venture capital slowdowns doesn’t seem to apply in New York this week! We’re glad to see so many of our friends and colleagues on this list (a subscription may be required), especially on the heels of FirstMark Capital’s announcement of more than $1 billion in new funding commitments and a16z’s post that, while it will shift its HQ to “The Cloud,” it remains committed to a sizable physical office in NYC and other cities.

To jump-start our city’s recovery, start with our streets (Crain’s New York Business)

  • Around this time last year, Tech:NYC joined 200 other city partners to advance NYC 25x25, a bold challenge to reclaim 25% percent of street space from cars for other uses by 2025. We joined the coalition because transportation is a business issue: accessible streetscapes create the city that remains attractive to the best talent and one we all want to live in. As the city advances its recovery efforts, the NYC 25x25 solutions should be at the top of the list.

The Best-Smelling Street in the City (Curbed)

  • Here’s one hyperlocal story we didn’t know we needed: a two-block stretch of Nolita has been dubbed NYC’s “Fragrance District.”

The 10 best frozen drinks for chilling out during the heatwave (Crain’s New York Business)

  • We’d recommend the Midtown colada or the Flatiron rosé, but honestly, also a lot of water. Stay cool and hydrated out there!
