A quick round of updates:

  • A new study found that COVID-19 vaccines saved more than 8,300 lives and prevented more than 44,000 hospitalizations and 250,000 cases throughout New York state. (CBS New York) The study underscored that the real-world performance of the vaccines can meet and even exceed trial results. Only 1.1 percent of the 500,300 virus cases during the first six months of this year were among people who were fully vaccinated, according to data from NYC’s health department. (New York Times)

  • Broadway is coming back (or if you’re a Springsteen fan, it already has!) after it had to dim the marquee lights more than a year ago. With reopening dates getting closer, the New York Times has brought back its guide to the next season: here’s everything you need to know about all the show openings, how to get tickets, and what their COVID protocols are.

    • Pass Over, which is the next show to open, with previews set to begin August 4, announced today it will require audience members to be vaccinated or tested within a certain window before show time. Springsteen does, as well, and these first two openings could point to a larger trend we can expect to see as more theaters reopen throughout the fall. (Deadline)

    • Also, an indoor beach opera is coming to BAM this fall!

  • The couples who have been waiting through a year’s worth of cancelled weddings are ready to make up for it. (Buffalo News) And as a result, wedding guests are dreading the biggest wedding boom since 1984. (Bloomberg)

    • The join-by-Zoom option is fading away, because virtual marriage ceremonies in New York are no longer legal. During the pandemic, they became a symbol of love persevering when lockdowns restricted travel and large in-person weddings. But Gov. Cuomo lifted the executive order issued in April 2020 allowing couples to be married online. (New York Times)

  • NYC Restaurant Week returns beginning Monday for the first time since the pandemic with 530 participating establishments, but reservations are open now! (Travel + Leisure)
