Why New York, with Index Ventures partner Martin Mignot (Index Ventures)

  • At the end of last year, we celebrated Index’s arrival in NYC — their first new office in about a decade — and to kick off their new blog series, Mignot makes the case for why European companies should launch their US expansions in New York over San Francisco. (We’re perhaps a bit biased, but he’s right, of course.)

Navy Yard startup tapped to help city guard against quantum hacks (Crain’s New York Business

  • The Brooklyn-based information networking and security startup Qunnect has been hard at work developing the post-quantum security standards that city governments and major corporations alike have been searching for. Its solution: GothamQ, a fiber loop running through Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan on top of existing traditional fiber cables. If successful, GothamQ could become key to future-proofing critical infrastructure security in the city.

  • We’ve combed over dozens of news stories and research reports with similar headlines, but Deloitte (a Tech:NYC member!) releases a long-running annual Tech Trends report, and it highlights focus areas we’ve seen echoed across our network. Two we’re watching closely: the next wave of use cases for AI and updated strategies for closing the tech skills gap. Deloitte’s analysis makes a cogent point: “technology” isn’t just IT, and emerging tech disciplines will rival IT in their impact of business innovation moving forward.
