At This Bronx School, Computer Science Class Now Includes Critiquing Chatbots (New York Times)

  • A high school teacher at the Young Women’s Leadership School of the Bronx recently generated the day’s entire lesson plan and class materials from ChatGPT — not to do the work for her, but to teach about the underlying AI itself. She has the right idea: It’s now obvious that AI will be increasingly important when today’s K-12 students become adults and enter the workforce, and they should be prepared to use it effectively and responsibly.

Enterprise tech sidesteps dip in startup funding (Crain’s New York Business

  • The end of 2022 closed with a significant reset on the frenzied pace of VC funding the year prior, but the one area that saw minimal retrenchment: enterprise and SaaS. Our friends at Work-Bench released a new report that follows the numbers, and they're showing a lot of upward momentum during a time when a lot of other sectors are struggling to say the same.

Announcing the Second Cohort of the City Fellowship for Impact Entrepreneurs (NYC)

  • There are 100+ accelerator and startup support programs in NYC, but the City Fellowship, a program from (Tech:NYC member!) Company Ventures and the New York City Economic Development Corporation, is unique in that it supports tech ideas being built in New York and for other New Yorkers. Congrats to this year’s cohort!

Micron hire grateful for company’s commitment to veterans (Spectrum News)

  • In October of last year, Micron came to Central New York to announce a historic $100 billion investment to open the largest chip manufacturing plant in the country. Shortly thereafter, Savion Pollard, a Queens native, became Micron’s first veteran hire in New York. Fast forward this week: he accompanied Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to Pres. Biden’s State of the Union address!
