The Brooklyn Navy Yard Has Become a Lab for Planet-Saving Tech (New York Times)
The historic naval shipbuilding facility is now home to a sprawling “city-within-a-city” anchored by Newlab and Yard Labs, a new initiative specifically inviting green technology companies to test their ideas in a controlled environment. For startups that may otherwise be faced with an overwhelming level of permitting bureaucracy to get their prototypes into the field, this is a game changer that will help ensure the future climate tech remains in New York.
City venture-backed tech businesses are hiring plenty and spending more (Crain’s New York Business)
New data from Ramp, a NYC-based expense management startup, surveyed 331 New York-based businesses that joined Ramp’s platform in the second quarter of last year, including 172 venture-backed companies, to find that a 67% growth rate in their average headcount to date. Making New York City the future for women's health (amNewYork)
Since Mayor Eric Adams announced plans in January to create the city’s first “women’s health agenda,” we’ve been convening his administration with the dozens of women healthtech founders in our network who were ready to jump aboard the help. The resulting Women’s Health Summit was the first step in putting to paper actionable policies that expand accessible care and improve health outcomes for women and girls citywide. Look out for the group’s recommendations this summer.
James Beard Foundation and Google Debut Massive NYC Food Hall on the Hudson (Food&Wine)
Not to mention a marine biology center and a lot of public bookable community space! The space will open this weekend in the heart of Google’s NYC campus, and we can think of no better way for Google to celebrate 23 years in NYC than the rebirth of this great landmark!
