Startup Newsletter: August 2023

Happy August! You may remember that, earlier this year, as in-person events and initiatives were coming back in full force, we asked founders (many of you!) where they saw gaps in programming and other local ecosystem opportunities. Many of those conversations shaped what became the Tech:NYC Founder House. Last month, we announced the initiative and, in collaboration with WeWork, opened our doors to the inaugural cohort. A group of 25 early-stage founders — many of whom found themselves launching their companies during the pandemic — got office space, curated programming, and personalized 1:1 office hours with Carta, Innovatmap, and other local industry partners. Our goal for this group was to ensure they had access to the right itinerary of investors and industry experts, but most importantly, to each other. The first House was even more productive than we anticipated — so it’s time to scale up. We’re hard at work to release plans for Cohort 2. A couple of early spoilers: We’re increasing the number of desks we have open in the House, and our next opening day is scheduled for the same opening day as New York Tech Week! We’re taking early requests to join the next Founder House now, but keep an eye on your inboxes as details evolve. We’ll be following up sooner than you think.Wishing you a relaxing, safe summer — we’ll see you soon!– Team Tech:NYC 🗽

Following our first Founder House, we caught up with five founders who were part of the inaugural cohort. They’re a diverse group of New Yorkers building new tools in AI, food tech, urban mobility, and more — and they’re leading our latest Companies to Watch. Meet:
Twine: An AI-powered “chief of staff” platform that summarizes, threads, and shares important business updates from meetings, Slack, and other tools across a business
Stak Mobility: A mobile self-service parking and EV charging solution for drivers in urban areas.
Airpals: An all-in-one B2B courier and logistics platform for office, administrative, and commercial real estate professionals.
Fig: A nutrition app that combines food and health systems data to build personalized plans for their dietary needs.
Dathic: An insights and analytics platform helping brands understand and authentically market to US Latino and multicultural consumers.
