Net Neutrality Day of Action Recap

The Battle to Protect Net Neutrality Continues

The Battle to Protect Net Neutrality Continues

By all accounts, Wednesday's day of action to protect net neutrality was a huge success. Thousands of websites, organizations, and services including Tech:NYC and members like Airbnb, Etsy, Facebook, Google, Kickstarter, Shapeways, Snap, and Twitter participated, joining forces with more than 125,000 others to sound the alarm on the potential demise of net neutrality. As a result, more than 2 million new comments were submitted to the FCC and more than 5 million emails were written to Congress to warn against rolling back protections that ensure that all those who rely on the internet have an equal shot to remain competitive and innovative.A few highlights from Wednesday: Twitter prominently promoted the #NetNeutrality hashtag throughout the day. Airbnb, Etsy, and Kickstarter pushed people to submit FCC comments on their homepages. Foursquare ran banner advertisements highlighting the issue in its apps and on the web. And nearly every company involved with Wednesday’s protest posted messages on their social media channels urging people to take action. While the day of action was a success, the battle is not over. FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai is still considering gutting net neutrality. We urge you to submit comments to the FCC and contact your representatives in Congress if you haven’t already. The deadline to submit comments to the FCC is Monday, July 17th, so you still have a few more days to help protect the internet. Let’s keep the fight going!
