The first week of Phase II for NYC is in the books, and it looks like we made it through intact! Here’s another short summer Friday post to take you into your weekend:

  • A quick round of updates:

    • It’s becoming increasingly clear a second surge is here. (The Atlantic) The US has seen more cases in the past week than any previous week since the pandemic began, and those cases are beginning to infect more young people. (New York Times) As new waves rise and fall, much of the world is coming to terms with how to live with coronavirus in the long-term. (New York Times)

    • But New York is curbing the virus because we stuck to a measured, data-driven approach to reopening. And now we’re able to lend a helping hand: Gov. Cuomo announced today that his staff are sharing what we’ve learned and offering to assist other states with everything from equipment procurement to National Guard deployment. (New York Daily News)

    • And if it’s time for you to refresh for mask stock, the team at WIRED has 15 recommendations for ones they actually like to wear. (WIRED)

  • Happy Pride! We’re coming to the end of what turned out to be a very different Pride Month, but there’s still a few opportunities to celebrate this weekend. Here’s a handful of virtual music events as part of HBO’s Human by Orientation series, and there’s a Pride march in solidarity with Black lives planned for Sunday in Manhattan. NYC Pride is also presenting a special broadcast on Sunday to commemorate this year as the 50th anniversary of the Pride March.

  • One housekeeping thing: if you haven’t already, be sure to add us ([email protected]) to the contacts in your inbox so future digests don’t get lost.

See you Monday!
