COVID-19 Digest

The first week of a reopened NYC is in the books, and it looks like we made it through intact! As we move into the weekend and prepare for reopening week two, here’s another summer Friday-inspired post:

  • A quick round of updates:

    • The infection rate in NYC in the last 24 hours is down to 1.5 percent. (NYS) The Rt COVID-19 dashboard created by the founders of Instagram shows New York has the lowest rate of new infections across all 50 states.

    • Contact tracing could become a part of regular office life. Here’s how it could work. (CNN)

    • During his daily live briefing, Gov. Cuomo signed into law the package of police reform bills passed in the New York Legislature this week. (New York Post) Gov. Cuomo is also launching the NYS Police Reform & Reinvention Collaborative, requiring local governments and police agencies to formulate a plan that reinvents and modernizes police strategies in their communities. The plan must be conducted with community participation, and it must be enacted by local law by April 1, 2021 for those agencies to be eligible for state funding.

  • One thing we’re looking forward to: NYC’s indie movie theaters are cautiously preparing to open. (Gothamist) Oh, and this dumpling automat coming to the East Village. (Time Out)

  • One housekeeping thing: if you haven’t already, be sure to add us ([email protected]) to the contacts in your inbox so future digests don’t get lost.

See you Monday!
