Bloomberg and Cornell Tech Dean Dan Huttenlocher for the latest installment of the CornellTech@Bloomberg series, featuring Ron Conway and Fred Wilson on Tuesday, June 7, at 6 pm. Legendary investors in the global technology industry, Ron and Fred are also highly active technology policy advocates. Join us for this special event as they discuss their approaches to building technology ecosystems, the importance of community engagement, and their unique perspectives on the Silicon Valley and New York City technology communities. The discussion will be guided by Tech:NYC’s executive director, Julie Samuels.
Ron Conway
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Ron was already a seasoned technology executive before turning to venture investing full time in 1998. He has invested in more than 650 companies in the years since, including Google and PayPal, most recently through SV Angel, a fund he started in 2005. Ron is a strong civic advocate, having led the creation of sf.citi, an advocacy group that represents the tech community in San Francisco. He is an active supporter of gun control efforts via Sandy Hook Promise, among others. He serves as a director or advisor to organizations as diverse as UCSF Medical Center, Brigade, Engine Advocacy, FWD.us, and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.
Fred Wilson
A native New Yorker, Fred has been a venture investor since 1987. He is a co-founder of Union Square Ventures, where he and his partners have invested in companies such as Twitter, Tumblr, Foursquare, Meetup, and Etsy. He was previously a founder at Flatiron Partners. Fred maintains the extraordinarily popular technology blog AVC. He is also known for his philanthropy in New York City, most recently his efforts to bring computer science education to the City’s public schools through CSNYC and as co-chair of Tech:NYC.
Julie Samuels
Julie Samuels is the executive director of Tech:NYC, a nonprofit member organization that represents New York City’s technology sector. Before Tech:NYC, Julie served as executive director at Engine, a nationwide nonprofit focused on technology entrepreneurship and advocacy, and senior staff attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, focused on intellectual property and digital rights.
