NYC 2021 elections: voter guide and ranked choice voting session

With less than a month to go before NYC’s primary elections, we wanted to provide some key resources so you and your colleagues feel prepared. As you may know, due to term limits, most of our citywide elected officials will be new in 2021, as will the majority of the NYC Council. New leadership will need to pick up the work of steering NYC’s post-pandemic recovery — and it’s critical that the leaders in our community encourage their teams to participate in electing that leadership. We encourage you to implement company policies that make time to vote and ensure your team members feel supported and prepared to do so. Below are a couple of resources we hope will help. Please let us know if there’s anything else Tech:NYC can do to support your efforts.

The Tech:NYC 2021 Elections Guide is a nonpartisan resource on everything you need to know about the June 22 primary and this year’s election cycle. The guide includes:

  • A roundup of races you’ll see on your ballot

  • How ranked choice voting will be used for the first time

  • Information on this year’s voting procedures, including absentee and early voting options

  • Deadlines to know about between now and Election Day

The guide will continue to be updated on a regular basis with the latest information as we approach Primary Day and look ahead to the general election in November.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 26 at 3pm ET, we’ll be joined by Rank the Vote NYC for a session on everything you need to know about ranked choice voting. We will discuss how the process will work, why NYC is using it for the first time, how it will tabulate your votes, and what you can expect on Election Day.

In addition, we will be joined by Ben Max, executive editor for Gotham Gazette, to provide the latest insights into the primary race and how RCV may play a role in which candidates will come out on top.
